La sclerosi multipla sta conquistando negli anni un ruolo decisamente negativo, conquistando idealmente il titolo di nuova piaga sociale a livello medico: le statistiche ci indicano infatti come ogni anno, solamente nel nostro paese si ammalino almeno 1800 persone. In questi giorni, a Roma, i maggiori esperti del settore si sono riuniti per fare il punto della situazione. Soprattutto in virtù della ricerca di nuove terapie per combattere la malattia e trovare delle risposte che nell’attesa di una cura risolutiva possano rispondere adeguatamente alle esigenze dei malati.
In Italia viene diagnosticato un nuovo caso ogni quattro ore: nel totale sono 63mila le persone che combattono attualmente contro la sclerosi multipla. I farmaci di prima lineapiù utilizzati sono l’interferone ed il glatiramer acetato: si tratta di principi attivi in grado di ottenere buoni risultati di contenimento della malattia, anche se una soluzione reale alla patologia sembra essere ancora lontana.
Il fine di questo incontro tra esperti, è quello di verificare quali siano le effettivepossibilità terapeutiche affrontabili per rendere la vita dei pazienti (in particolare donne dai 20 ai 40 anni, N.d.R.) il più possibile priva di ostacoli. Negli ultimi anni sono stati molti i traguardi raggiunti dal punto di vista terapeutico, sebbene una cura risolutiva della patologia che porti a una guarigione ancora non sia stata trovata. Attualmente si può modificare il decorso della sclerosi multipla, rallentandone la progressione e limitandone le conseguenze debilitanti.

"Oggi il neurologo ha a disposizione diverse opzioni terapeutiche come il Copaxoneper la cura di questa patologia ma per combattere la sclerosi multipla è essenziale un costante confronto scientifico, tra medici esperti in questo settore, e il coinvolgimento del mondo della politica. È necessaria, infatti, una maggiore e proficua collaborazione per fornire risposte sempre più concrete ai pazienti e alla società civile."
Secondo un’indagine della National Multiple Sclerosis Society su 1.200 persone affette da sclerosi multipla circa il 61% dei malati lamenta difficoltà a lavorare, con conseguente impatto negativo sulla situazione economica; il 65% di loro riporta problemi di deambulazione che in un caso su cinque li costringe a cambiare o ad abbandonare la propria professione. Per ciò che concerne l’Italia, l’Associazione italiana sclerosi multipla (Aism) ha rilevato che il costo sociale totale è pari a due miliardi e 400 mila euro annuali, che per le famiglie si traduce in una spesa che gravita attorno ai 32mila euro l’anno, a seconda della gravità del paziente.

L'articolo che vi ho riportato ha dimenticato di sottolineare che si è parlato di anche di cure sperimentali, fra cui la CCSVI (anche dall'Aism), di cui studi e test finanziati all'estero hanno già dimostrato che la scoperta del professor Zamboni funziona, e che in Italia inizierà la sperimentazione. Non mancano, però, sospetti e ostacoli.
